Trekking – Cusco 2D/1N
Day 1: Cusco – Tambomachay – Pumamarca
The day begins with a hotel pickup and transfer to the archaeological site of Tambomachay, where the trek starts. From this point, the hike takes us through high Andean landscapes, crossing the Sicllaccasa pass (4,020 m / 13,186 ft), and into the Ccauca ravine. Along the way, we observe archaeological remains and native vegetation such as tarwi and various cactus species.
We continue toward the Queullococha pass (4,185 m / 13,727 ft), where stunning views of the snow-capped peaks of Veronica, Pitusiray, and Chicon await. The trail leads us past the Queullococha lake, home to wild ducks and geese, before ascending to the Challu Challu pass (4,220 m / 13,842 ft), from where we can see the high plains of Chinchero and the lakes Piuray and Qoricocha.
The trek proceeds to the Rumicruz pass (4,230 m / 13,874 ft) and onward to the ancient Inca quarry (4,220 m / 13,842 ft), the source of stones used to build Huchuy Qosqo. We descend to the village of Pucamarca (4,010 m / 13,153 ft), where we arrive in the afternoon for dinner and an overnight stay at the campsite.
Day 2: Huchuy Qosqo – Cusco
After breakfast, we continue the journey toward Huchuy Qosqo, descending into the León Punku ravine, where remains of an Inca bridge and path can still be seen. This canyon features striking geological formations and towering rock walls that guide the river toward our destination.
At an altitude of 3,600 m (11,808 ft), the archaeological site of Huchuy Qosqo offers impressive Inca architecture and a wide ceremonial plaza with panoramic views of the Sacred Valley and the Vilcanota River. Following a guided tour, we hike uphill for about two hours to reach a high point of 4,200 m (13,776 ft), then descend to the community of Taucca.
There, we enjoy a well-deserved lunch before taking private transportation back to Cusco, concluding this memorable adventure.
