Trekking – Cusco – Q’arañahui Q’eswachaka Bridge

Q’arañahui and Q’eswachaka Bridge

Itinerary:

The tour will begin early in the morning with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. A private vehicle will be waiting to ensure a comfortable journey throughout the day. We will head south on a scenic drive that takes approximately 4 hours, passing through breathtaking Andean landscapes and lively rural communities. Along the way, we’ll cross the beautiful Pomacanchi Lake, located at 3,600 meters above sea level, where you can admire its calm waters and the surrounding natural environment.

Upon arrival, we will visit the iconic Q’eswachaka Bridge, a true gem of Inca heritage that is still in use today. This traditional hanging bridge, handcrafted entirely from braided ichu grass (a native Andean plant), spans the impressive Apurímac River, offering a spectacular view and a deep cultural experience. The bridge is carefully rebuilt every year during an ancestral festival known as the “annual bridge construction ceremony,” carried out by local communities who preserve this ancient technique with great pride.

You will have time to walk around, explore, and learn more about this incredible example of pre-Hispanic engineering, as well as the spiritual and cultural significance it holds for the people who maintain it. After this enriching cultural experience, we will begin our return journey along the same route, arriving back at the original starting point in Cusco.
